Alison E. Reed, LPC, CIRT

You are not “crazy” because you are feeling disconnected from your spouse or because you keep finding yourself in dating relationships that are more frustrating that fulfilling. You are not “crazy” because you do not feel good about yourself or have difficulty making decisions because you are so worried about what other people will think. You are not “crazy” because you are stuck and cannot figure out how to get unstuck. You are not “crazy” because you are having difficulty navigating a transition in your life or because you are beginning to question what you thought you would never question. You are not “crazy”. You are human-and we all have times in our lives when we need help.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I am trained to listen, reflect, educate and ask questions to help you solve problems, make decisions, and achieve the goals you set for yourself.  My aim is to establish a therapeutic relationship with you, which provides a supportive yet challenging, accepting and affirming space for exploring, healing, growth and change. You will improve the way you experience, trust and care for yourself, allowing you to live more fully in relationship with yourself and others.  I will help you learn to accept and manage your emotions, identify and modify thoughts and behaviors that are causing distress in your life and relationships, as well as identify and celebrate the strengths that have served you well.

I incorporate a variety of techniques into my therapeutic approach and draw from Person-Centered and Rational Emotive Behavioral therapies, Family Systems and Strength Based theories and the Gottman Method.  I am a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist (IRT) and the techniques and theory of IRT especially guides my work with couples and individuals addressing relationship issues. Areas of specialization include: marital and couples therapy, singles seeking relationship, life changes/transitions, adult child to parent conflict, self-esteem, personal growth and spiritual and/or religious concerns.

I received my Masters degree in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University and a Master of Teaching degree with a specialization in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, both from the University of Virginia. GO HOOS!

Joshua Liebman wrote, “Nature does not demand that we be perfect. It requires that we grow.”  I look forward to helping you release the demands of perfection that weigh you and your relationships down, so you can more effectively manage challenges that will arise and ultimately grow and thrive!
