Grace Barnes, Psy. D.

I am pleased to provide empirically-driven psychological and psychoeducational evaluations, as well as individual psychotherapy. I work with children, adolescents, and adults who experience complex emotional struggles and trauma as well as anxiety, depression, and those dealing with daily life adjustments and relationship struggles. I also have experience providing therapy and making recommendations for individuals requiring more intensive treatments, such as wilderness or residential care. In individual therapy, I utilize an integrative and skills-building approach. I seek to assist each client in personal discovery and to support a growth process.

I have a passion for completing thorough and practically relevant psychological evaluations. My approach to evaluation is to assist in determination of not only areas of weakness, but also to highlight areas of strength. I enjoy working closely with my clients to develop a comprehensive plan to assist in personal development and support. I provide extensive testing of cognitive abilities and academic skills, as well as emotional, behavioral and personality issues. In addition, I am trained to provide assessments to assist in diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder or developmental disabilities.

I completed my graduated degree in 2007 and have been working independently in private practice since that time. My training has been largely focused on the provision of comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations to children, adolescents, and adults. I completed my pre-doctoral training at an APA-approved consortium site in North Carolina where I participated in inpatient and outpatient mental health assessment and treatment of both children and adults. I have worked within a wide variety of treatment settings in order to gain a breadth of expertise. In addition to the consortium site, I have enjoyed working within a private practice, a university counseling center, a residential treatment program for adolescents, and a substance abuse treatment program. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at Emory University and my master’s and doctoral degrees from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology in Atlanta. My extensive training and experience allows me to easily work within various settings, with a wide variety of issues, and collaboratively within a treatment team.

Personally, I enjoy travel, art, and my pets. I love nature and gardening.

I look forward to speaking with you!
