Lisa M. Wilson-Tait, D.Min., LPC

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed and Ordained Minister I have made it my life’s mission to walk beside those seeking a greater understanding of their “true self.” This search for one’s meaning and purpose in life is many times thwarted by familial relationships, societal influences, economic constraints, identity issues, traumatic life events, lack of focus, chemical imbalances, drug use or abuse, etc. It is my belief that through a mutual process of respect and confidentiality the client and counselor can begin to create a space of healing, higher self-esteem and self-love, and ultimately positive growth and change. The goal of therapy is to move my clients from a place of “no or low self-awareness” to “high self-awareness and self-esteem.” This process or shift is aided by Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Treatment, Family Systems and Strength Based Theories, Body & Brain Yoga, Spiritual Counseling and other treatment modalities as needed. I also specialize in the administration of Clinical AOD Assessments for all ages.

While I have a passion for youth and young adults, I find it rewarding to work with clients of all ages, from  seven to seventy. I welcome working with anyone who is serious about making positive change in their life. My goal in treatment is to assist the client with creating and following a plan for success in their home, school or workplace, and community. I provide individual,  family, pre-marital, marital and group counseling.

I’ve received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Howard University; Master of Arts in Psychology from the American University; and my Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Virginia Union University. I have worked untiringly in the fields of education, counseling, women’s advocacy, child and youth advocacy, spiritual empowerment and addictions counseling for over 25 years. When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my two adult children, practicing Body & Brain Yoga, hiking, biking, shopping, traveling or discovering new ways of being at peace with myself and others.

I believe in providing a confidential, safe and non-judgmental environment where my clients can learn a variety of skills to help them gain more self-awareness and thus a higher level of self-esteem and self-love. I would love to assist you on your journey to wholeness and happiness and I believe together we can accomplish anything!
