Taya Sanders, LPC, RPT

My greatest love and passion in life is children. I am swept off my feet with their authenticity, liveliness, and naivety. I believe that children are like bright stars that emit immeasurable light of hope, love, creativity, resilience, and forgiveness. Each of them has their own color pallet, brightness, and frequency of sparkle. Sometimes this light is dimmed by various adverse biological, social, and environmental factors. Whether it is anxiety, worries, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, impulse control, explosive tantrums, anger, aggression, communication, ADHD, difficulty concentrating, child-parent relationship and attachment problems, peer and sibling issues, academic and learning difficulties, my goal is to help them to overcome barriers that are obscuring their brilliance and affecting their happiness and growth.

I am aware that the child-parent relationship dynamic is most sacred – the greatest bliss and challenge. I believe that there are no ill-intent parenting or parents. We all struggle with figuring out the best approach to our kids. YOU are the expert in your family relationship and I will help YOU realize it. I believe that you and I have a mutual goal to eliminate your child’s emotional pain and discomfort. Based on your needs and comfort level, I will utilize various approaches such Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Behavior Modification, Systemic Approach, Expressive Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, and Sandtray Therapy techniques and approaches. We will build upon the strength you and your child already have and resolve existing conflicts and challenges. My goal is to help ameliorate your child’s difficulties and to support your family in establishing a very strong loving connection and harmonious relationship. My goal is to empower YOU the parents to become comfortable with maintaining the family equilibrium and supporting your children in reaching their greatest potential.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist providing therapy to individuals, children, and families. I began my psychology studies in Ukraine where I completed a Specialist degree from Rivne Institute of Slavic Studies of Kiev University in 2002. I earned my 2nd Bachelor in 2008 and Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University in 2011. Because personal, professional, and spiritual growth is an important aspect of my life, I continue connecting with other professionals, expending my knowledge through workshops and conferences, and deepen my expertise through certification processes. My personal experience of acculturation in the United States, clear understanding of trauma of an orphaned child, as well as awareness of differences in Eastern European and American cultures made me especially sensitive to the needs and challenges of an adopted or fostered child. Therefore I completed Theraplay Level I Training, a new approach for healing attachment related disorders commonly seen in children who are being adopted or are in foster care into American families. It’s especially comforting to my clients to work with me as I also offer therapy in English, Russian, and Ukrainian.

I consider my work a blessing because I adore children, I love having fun, and can’t get enough of the beauty and the challenges that my young clients present to me by letting me into their worlds. I love my work because every day I utilize what I call my “gift of understanding and healing children through play”. My knowledge of Play Therapy allows me to understand children’s communication and to teach children skills that they need for success in a safe, gentle, and natural for them way. It is a blessing to see my how my client’s emotional, behavioral, social, and physical symptoms begin to diminish and they become the happier selves they truly want to be each day.

My other blessings and sources of joy are my family, reading books, music, hiking, camping, traveling and exploration of different cultures and spiritual practices. I also enjoy experimenting with healthy eating, exercise and fitness programs, baking, gardening, and spending time with my friends.
